American alligators are an important part of the South Carolina landscape. They can be found anywhere below the fall line and are especially prevalent along the coast. As human populations and development increase in these areas, so do interactions between people and alligators. This presentation will touch on a wide range of topics, including alligator history, understanding alligator behaviors, how to avoid negative interactions, and how alligators are managed in South Carolina.
About the Speaker: Rebecca Cavalier is a wildlife biologist for SCDNR and is the Nuisance Alligator Coordinator for the upper coastal region of South Carolina. She assists in all things alligators, but her main responsibilities include nuisance alligator management and the continued development of alligator education and outreach.
