Lee started with Garden City Realty in 1980 while a student at USC Coastal. In 2006, Lee and Dennis McElveen purchased Garden City Realty from Beau Forshee. Dennis was the Broker-In-Charge of the Vacation Rental Department, and Lee was the Broker-In-Charge of the Sales Department. In July 2021, Drew McElveen purchased 50% of Garden City Realty from his father, Dennis, and is now Broker-In-Charge of Vacation Rentals alongside Lee.

Lee and his wife, Whitney Mathews Hewitt of Rock Hill, SC, have two sons and a golden retriever named Haven.
