Originally from Lake City, South Carolina, Dennis moved to Garden City Beach in 1977. He attended Spartanburg Methodist College and Francis Marion University. He has been a licensed real estate agent since 1977. He is a Certified Property Manager (CPM), a Realtors Institute Graduate (GRI) Graduate, and the Broker-In-Charge of Garden City Realty's vacation rental department. Dennis was the South Carolina President of the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) in 1991 and received the Realtor Image Award in 1992. He has served on numerous boards and is involved with the South Carolina Pee Dee Area Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 2010 Dennis was inducted into the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Hall of Champions.

Dennis has volunteered in the youth recreation leagues and coached a few local high school baseball teams. "One of my passions has been to help provide our high school and college coaches and athletes the opportunity to realize that there is more to life than the thrill of the game," said Dennis.

Dennis and his wife, Pam, from Irmo, South Carolina, have two sons, both of whom are married, and two grandchildren.

His hobbies include hunting, fishing, and playing golf with his sons.
