The History of Garden City Realty

Garden City Realty was established in late June of 1973 when Martins Real Estate Company was bought by Eugene (Beau) Forshee, Fred L. Willcox and M. Murray McLendon. The first office was located in a small two-room building at the corner of Dogwood Drive and Atlantic Avenue in Garden City Beach. The office was relocated in the spring of 1978 to its present location at 608 Atlantic Avenue (Map).

In 2001 Garden City Realty merged with By the Sea Realty and took over the on-site office in the oceanfront Surfmaster building. The Surfmaster office rents approximately sixty 1, 2 and 3 bedroom condominiums and several penthouses on the oceanfront.

In 2006, Lee Hewitt and Dennis McElveen purchased Garden City Realty from Beau Forshee. Dennis is the Broker-in-Charge of the Vacation Rental Department and has been with Garden City Realty since 1977. Lee is the Broker-in-Charge of the Sales Department and has been with Garden City Realty since 1981.

The Vacation Rental Department has grown from 18 rentals in 1973 to approximately 550 resort homes and condominiums today.

The Sales Department has 17 sales professionals with nearly 300 years of sales experience. All agents at Garden City Realty are multi-million dollar producers and strive to help all customers and clients make their beach dreams come true.
